Cycling through the rice fields on the Traditional Countryside tour.

8:30 AM – 3 PM · 9 km · very easy · 1–10 adults · children welcome

The easiest Hoi An bicycle tour: a slow, relaxing ride far from traffic and noise. You cross the islands of the Thu Bon river delta by ferry and floating bridge, see how wooden river boats are built, learn the secret of weaving Hoi An’s colourful straw sleeping mats and try a basket boat. Lunch is a traditional meal in the home of a local family (fish, meat or vegetarian). After a rest in the shade of a mango tree, you return to Hoi An by boat in about 35 minutes.

Includes: lunch with a local family, water, English or French guide (plus an assistant for groups over 3), 35-minute boat ride, visits and activities; helmet and child or baby seats on request. Not included: extra drinks, insurance.

2. Real Vietnam

5. Full Discovery Vietnam (Cooking and Cycling)

8 AM – 5 PM · 25 km · easy · 1–8 adults · children welcome

Start with a one-hour boat ride on the Thu Bon River to a small village in the middle of the delta. Spend the morning cycling about 16 km through rice fields, crossing from island to island on wooden and bamboo bridges. A short boat crossing takes you to lunch at a local family’s home. In the afternoon you follow the Countryside route to discover the local crafts, with a ferry, a floating bridge and a bamboo bridge along the way.

Includes: lunch with a local family, mountain or hybrid bike, 1-hour boat transfer, English or French guide (plus assistant for groups over 3), visits, water. Not included: extra drinks, insurance.

3. My Son Temples by Bike

7:30 AM – 3:30 PM · about 27–30 km on flat, quiet roads · level 2 · 2–8 people

After choosing and adjusting your bike at the office (61 Ngo Quyen), a minibus takes you to My Son Sanctuary in about an hour. The visit starts around 8:30 AM, before the big tour buses arrive and while it is still cool. Your guide explains the history and legends of the Cham temples, built between the 7th and 15th centuries and rediscovered by French explorer Camille Paris in 1889. Then you cycle back along country roads, visiting a family in a traditional wooden house, a village of cotton weavers using colonial-era looms and a small local market. After lunch at a local restaurant, a relaxing one-hour boat ride on the Thu Bon River brings you back to Hoi An, just 50 metres from the office.

Includes: lunch, mountain or hybrid bike, minibus transfer, English or French guide (plus assistant for groups over 3), visits. Not included: drinks, insurance.

4. Just for the Ride (Mountain Bike Trip)

Meet 7:15 AM, back around 12:30 PM · 45 km · medium · 1–8 people

The sportiest Hoi An bicycle tour, for people in good physical condition. The route is not technical, so you don’t need to be an experienced mountain biker. About half of it is on quiet, fairly flat dirt trails with no traffic, with stops for photos and to meet locals. Note that it can be hot from May to August, and trails can be very muddy in October to December.

Includes: mountain bike rental (Cannondale, Sava or Cube, 14″ to 21″), English or French guide, all ferry and bridge tickets, sandwich and water. Not included: insurance.

8 AM – 6 PM · 9 km · level 1 · 1–12 people

A full-day Hoi An bicycle tour run together with My Grandma’s Home Cooking. In the morning, visit Hoi An market to discover local ingredients, then take a 40-minute boat ride to a delta village for an outdoor cooking class under the coconut trees. You learn traditional ways to prepare rice, make your own rice paper and cook four dishes: marinated pork skewers, banh xeo, papaya salad and Vietnamese-style fish (vegetarian menu on request). After lunch, cycle from island to island back to Hoi An, learning how rice wine is distilled, how basket boats are made (and trying one) and how sleeping mats are hand-woven.

Includes: boat transfer, welcome drink, all cooking ingredients, English cookbook, visits and activities, water, city or hybrid bike, English or French guide. Not included: soft and alcoholic drinks, insurance.
